How to Get Diesel Fuel Smell Out of Clothing

How to Get Diesel Fuel Smell Out of Clothing

Whether you are a handyman or just a DIY projects enthusiast, you have probably worked with diesel fuel before. A lot of machines and equipment use diesel as cheap and easy-to-obtain fuel.

But accidents happen. After washing your clothes and even if you haven’t experienced a spill, you might still have this annoying smell that lingers for days.

It can trigger a headache and is not exactly the best thing to smell after a long tiring day. Hang your clothes in the wardrobe and you might experience a nightmare of annoying odors that will deprive you of sleep. When you go out hunting wear a pant then you need to know how can wash the pant.

Removing diesel fuel smell might not be the easiest task if you don’t know how to do it right. Buying a lot of expensive detergents is not the best option. Unfortunately, washing and air drying your clothes will not be enough to remove the lingering smell.

How to Get Diesel Fuel Smell Out of Clothing?

Although good old soap and water will not be enough to make your clothes smell fresh again, there are other methods that you can use to make sure that you have got rid of the smell for good.

Air Dry:

The easiest and fastest method to get rid of all annoying odors is to let your clothes air dry. Good ventilation is an efficient way to get rid of all annoying odors especially if you don’t have time to use any other method.

If you use your clothes every day, washing them every day after work might not be the most practical solution. Just hang them in a place where they have access to fresh air and the sun. This will work to remove some of the annoying smell.

Coca-Cola:

Did you know that the classic Coca-Cola drink can be the solution to remove the diesel smell? You can soak your gloves or clothes in Coca-Cola before washing them as you would normally do. You can also pour a can of Coca-Cola in the washing machine with your regular detergent.

However, if your clothes are light-colored, this method might not be the most practical one. Coca-Cola can damage the color of your light coloreds and cause staining, so you want to be careful when using this technique.

Baking Soda:

Baking soda is very good at removing all sorts of annoying odors from your house. It also works with removing the smell of diesel fuel from your clothes.

You can prepare a paste made of water and baking soda and rub it all over your clothes to remove the annoying smell. Leave this solution on for about 15 minutes. Let the clothes dry then remove the white residue. After that, you can wash them using your regular detergent.

You can also add half a cup of baking soda to your washing cycle. Baking soda won’t harm your washing machine if you don’t add too much. Wash your clothes normally then let them air dry. The smell will be gone.

Vinegar:

Vinegar can remove the stubborn diesel fuel smell and can also remove all oily stains. You can soak your clothes in white vinegar before washing them or you can add them to your washing machine.

Vinegar also doesn’t remove the dye or affect the color of your garments. Don’t worry about the smell of the vinegar. It doesn’t stick to your clothes. Once you have left your clothes to air dry, your clothes will smell fresh and will be comfortable to wear.

You can also prepare a solution made of vinegar and baking soda. Use a soft brush to rub this solution all over your clothes. It will get rid of all the stains along with the fuel smell.

Lemon:

Lemon juice can actually replace that nauseating diesel fuel smell with a fresh and uplifting smell. Just squeeze a few lemons into a bucket of water to prepare some fresh juice and soak your clothes in the solution for 10 to 15 minutes.

You can also add this juice to your washing machine. It is mild and natural so it will not ruin your clothes. After your clothes dry, they will smell like fresh lemons.

Ammonia:

Ammonia doesn’t smell very nice but it is one of the most effective solutions to remove the lingering diesel fuel smell. Add it to your water and soap and wash your clothes normally.

This will remove all nasty smells and will make your clothes clean. Make sure that you leave your clothes to air dry in the sun to remove all annoying smells.

Attend to stains and spills as soon as they happen. Don’t wait until your clothes are impossible to use before you start looking for a solution. This will make the cleaning process faster and easier.

Removing the annoying diesel smell doesn’t have to cost a lot of money. The right ingredients are easily found in your kitchen cabinet.
